How a match works,
step by step.

Exactly what happens at each stage — what we do, what you do, and what happens next.

Step 01 · Client intake

Client looking for care completes intake.

Individuals, couples, and parents fill out a structured intake on our site. 30+ questions and 8 validated clinical measures capture what they're struggling with, their insurance and availability, and what they want out of therapy.

We score the match

Every client is profiled on the same dimensions we profile you on — before they ever reach you.

Inside the intake

Every client completes a structured intake before they're matched. It's built to profile fit on the same axes we profile you on. Here's what we capture, and why it matters for you.

Fit & working style

So the clients you're sent match how you work — not just what you treat.

  • Directive ↔ exploratory: how much structure and guidance they want in session.
  • Insight ↔ action: whether change comes from understanding patterns or from doing.
  • Relational presence: how much warmth, disclosure, and in-the-room engagement they respond to.
  • Plus reads on coping orientation, conflict avoidance, reactance, and need for reassurance.

You complete a parallel 11-question style assessment. We score both sides on insight/action, directive/following, and relational presence — and match there. A directive, action-oriented clinician doesn't get sent someone who wants slow, exploratory depth work.

Clinical picture

So you know what's actually coming through the door — and we never route outside your scope.

  • Presenting concerns across mental-health, life-stage, and personal-growth areas.
  • One designated priority concern, with its duration and severity.
  • Brief validated check-ins (PHQ-2, GAD-2) for depression and anxiety.
  • A safety item; elevated-risk intakes are held for manual review, not auto-routed.

Readiness & history

So you can tell an activated, ready-to-work client from someone still deciding.

  • Prior therapy experience, and whether they're currently in care.
  • If they're switching, why — captured explicitly.
  • Readiness: urgency, confidence, and resilience.

Access & logistics

So every match already clears the hard constraints before it reaches you.

  • Insurance, including Quest, or private-pay budget.
  • Island, and in-person vs. telehealth.
  • Availability windows and language.

Intake adapts to who's being matched

  • Individual — the full profile above.
  • Couples — adds relationship length and structure, what each partner wants to work on, whether both attend, and a partner-safety check that routes flagged cases to manual review.
  • Child & teen — adds guardian consent, custody and decision-making, and how involved the parent wants to be. Routed to clinicians whose scope covers that age and acuity.

Every signal is stored structured — so matching sharpens as the data grows. You get better-fit referrals over time, not just more of them.

Step 02 · Fit scoring

We score the match on three kinds of fit.

The client is compared against every therapist in the network on clinical, practical, and personal fit — then we shortlist the 1–3 strongest. A real person reviews every shortlist before anything is sent. The score guides the decision; it never makes it alone.

Step 03 · Your turn

You approve or pass.

You get an email with an anonymized summary — the client's situation, needs, insurance, and availability. Approve if it's a fit, or pass with no obligation and no explanation needed.

The client reviews & chooses

Approving doesn’t connect you yet. The client still has to review your profile and choose you back — it’s not a match until you both say yes.

Step 04 · The client's turn

The client chooses you back.

Every therapist they approved appears in the same standardized profile — built from your intake — so they compare on genuine fit, not who marketed best. There's no ranking and no paid placement. A match only becomes real once the client picks you.

Step 05 · The hand-off

We introduce you — then it's yours.

Now that you've both said yes, we send a warm introduction with the client's contact details — this is when you get their info. You reach out, run a free consult, and bill through your own practice. No fees, no lock-in. The relationship is entirely yours.

What you see, and what stays under the hood.

You get the survey-based triage that helps you make a clinical call. The scoring and ranking stay internal – so the decision in front of you is about fit, not a number.

On your screen

  • Demographics, location, and format
  • Insurance, budget, and availability
  • Their reason for therapy, in their own words
  • Primary concern and tags
  • Validated screens (PHQ-2 / GAD-2) and readiness
  • Stated preferences – focus and guidance

Under the hood

  • The match score and ranking
  • The clinical / practical / personal breakdown
  • Load-balancing across the network
  • The model that learns from your decisions

That’s how a match is made.

No fees or subscriptions, you approve every match, and you’re never locked in. Apply in under 15 minutes – we review every one.
